I Make Cars

This is an extract from a famous Indian national daily Hindustan Times.

His red sports car is an eye-catcher. A model of technological brilliance, the door-less and roofless designer car is his own creation. He might be too young to hold a valid driving license, but his knowledge of automobile technology is awesome. He has also completed a brand new Limousine after making this red sports car. Meet Naman Chopra, a young automobile expert from Ghaziabad, India.
Naman used his knowledge about cars and its technology for designing this car. His father Umesh Chopra bought him a used Maruti Van to experiment on. Naman initially wanted to convert it into a luxury car, but he ended up with a sports car. "The entire conceptualization, designing and making took me about two years.", says this 14 year old still in school boy. The red sports car is an interesting assembly of the best of various vehicles. While the headlights are of tractor, Naman has used the front indicators of a Bajaj Boxer motocycle. Rear taillight assembly has been taken from Toyota Qualis. However, he has retained the engine and the chassis of the donor car. "In the improvised version, the distance between the engine and driver is a little more. That's why I have used Gypsey's steering column, controller and instrumentation," explains Naman.

If thats not all, he has made another car, a limousine for himself, the car has all the facilities that you will find in a limousine. The black beauty is also made from junk and is capable of speeds of up to 130MPH. It has a 1498 cc engine borrowed from Daewoo Cielo. This car is equipped with power windows, power steering, manual 5 speed transmission, sun and moon roof, central locking, tubeless tires, 15" alloy wheels, clear headlamps, driver and rear passenger separation(just like in a real limousine), runs on gasoline. Equipped with stereo and leather seats. Both cars are in perfect running condition.

Inspired by a programme on automobiles on Discovery channel, Naman says automobiles have always fascinated him. He prefers reading automobile technology related books whenever he has time. He has a large collection of automobile books. His room is full of miniature cars, and against the wishes of his father he has put some cars posters on his room's walls.
